What is 3D printing?
3D printing, also known as Additive Manufacturing, is a manufacturing technique that turns digital designs into tangible objects. Unlike traditional manufacturing methods, where materials are cut away or hollowed out, a 3D printer builds the object layer by layer. This is achieved by using the material in powder, liquid or filament form, depending on the type of technology and the object to be produced. Want to know more about it? How does 3D printing work?
The basis of a 3D print is the digital design. The 3D design can be created in various 3D design programs, such as Solidworks, Inventor, Fusion 360 and others.
The digital file is then converted to a file called STL. This format can then be loaded into the software to drive the printer.
Eventually a file comes out that the 3D printer can read. Then you can start printing!

This varies by technique, but the basis is always a digital design! 3D printing materials are available in an awful lot of colors. So a 3D object can certainly be printed in color as well.
